  1. More from Emma!

    Dear student,

I’d like to properly welcome you to the class. This is Academic Reading and Writing 2B. It’s for students in Intermediate general English who want to improve their academic and analytical reading and writing skills.

Over the next weeks, we’ll look at various elements of these skills. For you to fully benefit from the course, it’s important that you follow my advice, (and that of Pam, your other teacher on this course), and complete tasks that we give you. Everything we do is designed to slowly and carefully build your skills in reading and writing. Follow our advice and you will improve.

A lot of activities are planned for the lessons ahead to focus on aspects like effective summarising, writing about opinion, analysing trends in graphs, and others. We want to concentrate on building effective skills for reading as well as gathering useful vocabulary tools for the academic writing tasks you will encounter

Before we can plan the rest of the course, we’d like to get to know a little bit about you all. So, please reply to my letter and tell me about yourself, your interests and what you would like to get from this course.

I’m looking forward to reading your replies and working with you!

    Best regards,

    Emma

  2. Hi Emma,

Thanks for your letter. Well my name is Khasifah you can call me Sifa. I'm research officer at Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI), Serdang Selangor. I have been working in MARDI for almost six years.

For your information, i'm going to take an IELTS exam this Saturday. Actually, I've taken IELTS course at BC before. I want to focus more on reading and writing, because these two parts are my weakness.

I also planning to further study abroad and i hope through this course and with your helps my reading and writing skills could improve.

    Thanks a lot Emma....

    Best wishes,
    Sifa

Good luck with the exam on Saturday!!

I wish we had more time together before the exam - only 1 week! What band do you need for university?

I hope the skills that you learn on the course help you in your studies as well as your IELTS.

  5. Amal,

It's good to see you accurately assessing your own strengths and weaknesses. I hope we can help you on this course, but remember, the more you write, the more you will get out of the course!!!
