Course introductions

Hi everyone

Welcome to our class blog! This is an excellent chance for you to get more writing practice. Don't worry, only people on our course can read the blog! Your teachers will give you tasks to write about during the course.

Task 1 Write a paragraph to introduce yourself to the class. You could tell us about:

  • where you are from
  • your family
  • your hobbies/interests
  • how long you've been in Malaysia
  • why you are studying English
  • your goals for the future
  • something interesting about yourself!

Remember to check your work carefully, then click on PUBLISH POST. If you want to change anything you wrote, click on New Post, then Edit Posts.

Homework for Tuesday

Hi everyone

Tonight for homework, I'd like you to write a paragraph (not an essay!). Remember to:
  • have a topic sentence
  • link the ideas using linkers we studied today
  • support your ideas by explaining them or giving examples.

The topic is:

Write a paragraph (80-120 words) about the disadvantages of the Internet.

I'll be reading your paragraphs and making comments, so remember to go back and check the blog after a few days.

Best wishes

Mary

Hello from Mary

Hi everyone

I've been working at British Council Malaysia for almost four years! I really enjoy teaching here because the students are so interesting. I've been teaching Academic Reading and Writing for about two terms. I really enjoy looking at the skills involved in reading and writing in depth. I am also responsible for writing the course, so I'm very interested in what students have to say and what they want.

Something interesting about me? Well, I once ate fried crickets in Cambodia! I really didn't want to, but my hosts had prepared them specially for me and there was no escaping.

Looking forward to working with you on the course.

Homework Task

Hi everyone

If you want extra practice with writing paragraphs, write a paragraph (approximately 100 words) starting with this topic sentence:

It is important for parents to teach their children about ...

You need to decide what it is they should teach their children, and then give three reasons why to support the topic.

Happy writing!

Mary

Homework

Hi everyone

Nice meeting you all today! Here's another writing topic. You can write on the blog, or hand it in to me next week.

Write a paragraph (about 100 words) about the following topic.

Write about a city you have visited and you enjoyed.
  • When did you go there, and why?
  • What did you do while you were there?
  • What did you particularly enjoy about that place?
